Well, we are in our coming to the end of our first week of January and I suppose it's time to tell you that I have finally made the decision to put a hold on hosting Mission Unstoppable Radio. I am still Unstoppable don't get me wrong. I will just be changing my focus and attention.

This would be my fifth year of hosting a show and while I love radio, I am not as passionate about it as I once was.

I want to do something more challenging and to that end,  I have chosen to sit quietly until what that is comes to me..smile.

In the meantime, I am always available for coaching, assistance, friendship and anything else you might need or want me to help you with.

This is not a goodbye, just a sabbatical, time off to find my true desire and calling again. I want to feel that rush of passion that makes me get out of bed with a huge smile and a ton of energy.

My  guest this week is Braxton Brady, co author of " "Flight Plan", a book that evolved from an original program and curriculum  offered to the 630 boys who attend Presbyterian Day School (PDS) in Memphis, Tennessee. The program is called Building Boys, Making Men and was developed by authors school Chaplain, Braxton Brady  and Headmaster  Lee Ryan. 

Teenage boys are faced with navigating the turbulent journey to manhood, often without an inkling of what that really means or any direction of how to get there. With their book, Flight Plan: Your Mission to Become a Man, Braxton and Brady offer boys and young men a definition and vision of manhood that can help them to make wise choices during their teenage years and beyond. The book frankly and authentically discusses a number of issues they will face and  it teaches boys a definition of a Godly manhood as well as focusing on the question of what it means to be a man that  includes in depth teaching on many of the changes, challenges, and temptations they will be facing as teenagers.

My guest this week is Deidre Hughey, a National motivational speaker, host of 3 Steps Forward Radio, a recognized expert on " Love Your Life Again', and author of "I Am Bound and Determined".

Deidre is a survivor and thriver of Childhood Trauma, and realized that she not only had a story to share, but maybe an obligation to other women to show them there is life and hope after so much bleakness and despair.

Driven by the realization that the greatest gift that she can give is hope and inspiration to the multitude of women that have been traumatized, abused and left with a sense that dreams are for other people. This week my guest is Steve Elder a well know speaker, wealth adviser, professional coach, husband, and father, who often counsels people about their life goals. Steve can now add published  'Author' to that laundry list of ‘who’ he is.

Steve’s book is called ‘ How Much More Longer’ the title taken from an expression his impatient son would ask while taking trips in the family car.

Today, that impatient call has more meaning as Steve asks his readers,  "when will you start showing for your life'? When will you begin to  live your passion and  be honest with yourself and others?

The book is a wake up call that the time to live is NOW and through sharing his personal trauma's, near death experience and the PAIN of being Steve, Steve's humor and authenticity are sure to move even the most hardened to crack a smile or shed a tear, if not for themselves, than for Steve himself.

 For over two decades, Barbara Stahura ( now almost 50)  had waited, wondered and almost gave up on the dream of falling in love   and marrying the man of her dreams, until she read a  chance article in a local Tucson newspaper that ran an interview with Ken Willingham “Tucson’s Most Wanted,” bachelor of the day. Compelled to respond to this man,  Barbara reached out to Ken, and the rest is as they say, history. The couple fell madly in love, wedded and lived blissfully ever happy for 9 months to the day, until fate had brought a new reality to their door.

Barbara found out that her husband Ken was the victim of a  serious motorcycle accident. A   hit-and-run driver had turned left in front of him, ( the most common reason for bike accidents) and with no time to respond,Ken had hit the oncoming car and went down with his bike. While the helmet he was wearing saved his life, his brain traumatic brain injury aka TBI.

 In its simplest terms, a traumatic brain injury is a condition caused by a head injury that results in lasting damage to the brain. It can be a closed-head injury or one that pierces the skull and penetrates the brain. Each year, an average of 1.4 million Americans suffer a traumatic brain injury—that’s one every 23 seconds. About 5 million of these survivors live with a permanent disability because of the TBI.

 Family members are thrown into the role of caregiver, which as Barbara discovered, can come with extreme emotional exhaustion, a clinical condition called compassion fatigue. Those affected by TBI—survivors and family members alike—need every tool available to cope with the condition as they work toward whatever physical, mental, and emotional healing is possible.

One of the ways Barbara coped with Ken’s condition and her own compassion fatigue was through journaling. She has been a professional writer for more than 20 years and has journaled for nearly that long. After Ken’s injury, she began to wonder if people with TBI might benefit from what is often referred to as “reflective writing.” she created and began leading journaling workshops for people with brain injury. Out of these workshops evolved the book, After Brain Injury: Telling Your Story, which she co-wrote with speech therapist Susan B. Schuster, MA, CCC-SLP. 

After Brain Injury: Telling Your Story has been hailed as “a landmark book for people with brain injury and their friends and family” and “a gentle process for uncovering the injured and recovering self.”

Barbara is also the author of 'What I thought I Knew’ a collection of personal essays, and truths of the heart that Barbara has filled with gut wrenching honesty and heartwarming ‘win’s’ of the heart.

Anthony Aquan-Assee -

ON the morning of  Sept 23^rd,  1997, Anthony aquan –assee , a special ed teacher, was on his way to school to coach football practice when he sustained a horrific crash involoving his motorcycle and a car. Anthony  sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury as a result of a this accident and  underwent numerous life saving surgeries including Neurosurgery, Open Heart surgery, Lung surgery, Plastic surgery and General surgery. He was not expected to live, but his  miraculous survival and unbelievable recovery  astonished the medical experts and continues to astound those who hear of it today.

After remaining in a coma for 2 weeks and spending nearly one year in various hospitals, Anthony's rehabilitation is an inspiring story that needs to be told. His relentless efforts, strong will, and his determination to persevere despite all odds shows the strength of the human spirit. At the time of the accident, Anthony was training to make the Canadian Olympic Judo team to compete in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia,

Instead, in the year 2000, Anthony was awarded the Courage To Come Back Award from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. This was awarded to him for having the courage to face the adversities in his life, and his ability to use these challenges in a proactive way. Anthony is presently a volunteer in the Neuro-Trauma I.C.U at St. Michael's hospital, where he was given a 2nd chance at life.

Today, Anthony is an elementary school teacher, motivational speaker and author of  3 books, Second Life, Second Chance: A Teacher's Chronicle of Despair, Recovery and Triumph ,  Starting Over A Survivor's Guide and  Vendeka's Creed

Ten years ago, doctors told Tryshe that she would most likely die within a month from the hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver – something that they could no longer treat.

At 78, Dr. Robert Rose, educator, psychologist is not close to slowing down. He continues to challenge the status quo with what he calls, Imaginative Curriculum (IC) and to that end, hosts his own weekly radio show, IC Dr. Rose, where he gets to deliver his message to the world via internet radio, as well as being interviewed himself, thru forums and imagine this, the powerful medium of Video. Dr. Rose says he is looking to build a consortium of gifted individuals from  all disciplines who are interested in working together to promote an education that will develop citizens who can think,  rather than become robotic test takers.

I am pretty sure that you will be hard pressed to find a more honest, endearing or irascible but loving teacher than Dr. Rose. He is also a prolific writer and if I have my count right, he has written something like 16 books on Education, Personal Psychology, and Self Help Workbooks. He has also authored literally dozens of  articles  on everything from education, pain relief , the role of caregiver , and what looks like fictional romance.

Dr. Rose believes that what happens in the classroom is not just a teacher responsibility. He feels that everyone, including the children, parents, administrators, and legislators need to take responsibility and be empowered for the outcomes of that classroom. 

Are his ideas radical? Sometimes? Do they always work? Not always, however he has always been what seems to be  an open book and a work in progress. His book, JOYS of TEACHING: They Touched My Life won the READERS’S FAVORITE award for the Best Education Book of 2009.

Some of his other books, The Complete Teacher, The Creative Teacher, Our Extradordinary Year in Dad’s Class, ABUSES of POWER in EDUCATION:Challenging Practically Everything, and Racism 70’s style, show he was always on the  cutting edged a teacher who was also a student, someone who never stopped his own learning and always searching for the answer to “ Why are We Doing It, THIS Way?

Dr. Rose has helped thousands of people change their lives either through his classroom, or by being a thorn in the side of an outdated educational system. Dr. Rose believes in a Self Sustaining Classroom and through his own trial and error found a method of teaching that turned out students were independent, self-aware, self-confident, self-motivated, and could totally accept responsibility for their actions.
