The Incredible Jean Davies Okimoto

Not only is Jean an absolutely FEARLESS author, no topic or subject is taboo with her, she has the most incredible 'written 'voice' and I am not the only one to notice. Armed with a Masters in Psychology, by day Jean Davies Okimoto is a psychotherapist who just might get her own therapy from being such a prolific writer.

She has written 13 books and counting and  her books have been the recipient of the American Library Association's Best Books for Young Adults Award; the International Reading Association's Reader's Choice Award; the IRA/CBC Young Adults' Choice Award; the Parent's Choice Award; the Washington Governor's Award and the Maxwell Medallion for Best Children's Book of the Year. As well, two of her books have been recognized as the Smithsonian Institution's Notable Books and she has received  the 2008 Winner of The Green Earth Book Award. Jean has recently moved from writing childrens and young adult genre to tackling Adult fiction. Her break out novel The Love Ceiling is a beautiful book that captures the ceiling of love that often keeps woman from reaching their full potential.  In The Love Ceiling you'll meet sixty-four year old Anne Kuroda Duppstaad, who after the death of her Japanese American mother, confronts the toxic legacy of her father, a famous artist and cruel narcissist, to become an artist in her own right.  The Love Ceiling is a winner of the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Award.

Her books have been the subject of an HBO special and  Uncle Hideki & The Empty Nest was turned into a stage play
 Jean  and her husband Joe live on Vashon Island, Washington. Together they have four grown children, six grandchildren and a dog who thinks it’s a person.
