The Secret Life of John Quinn- Hiding Cerebral Palsy from the Navy
By admin on May 5, 2010 in Featured Guest on Mission Unstoppable
Please join The Unstoppable Frankie Picasso on Tuesday, May 11th, at 8:00 pm est for another Mission Unstoppable, www.blogtalkradio.com/missionunstoppable when my guest is former Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer, John Quinn, author of, 'Someone Like Me' My Secret Life with Cerbral Palsy. All it took was one small lie to a recruiting officer and grueling exercises to pull off the deception of a life time. It was no small acting job perpetrated by John Quinn to cover up a disease with such physcially evident symptoms but he did. John was able to master and mask his body and the symptoms of Cerebral Palsy in order to live out his lifelong dream of becoming a Sailor in the Navy. Incredible as it seems, John was able to function past the pain, partial paralysis, and two different sized feet, to retire at 40 after a 20 year stint in the Navy. John's time in the Navy was spent as a battleship sailor on board the USS Iowa and many others, and he even served with the Navy SEALs. John wrote this book to give hope to the millions of people struggling with muscular disorders who fight to make it through every day. It is also for the parents who lie awake at night and wonder what the future holds for their children–those who resist leaving the house for fear of being laughed at because they are different. Says John, "Decades later, I can still remember that laughter. With a little luck and lots of hard work and determination to succeed despite overwhelming odds, sometimes we can indeed achieve what seems impossible."

Great Interview. I knew John and Phil back in Junior high and High School. I have read "Someone Like Me" I knew John was different from the rest of us kids when we were young, but didn't know what. What a great story of you life John and your accomplishments. I'm proud to say when I tell people about this book that "I know John Quinn"
